It's been months since Candace Payne became a worldwide viral sensation after posting a Facebook Live video where she candidly laughed at wearing a Star Wars mask, forever becoming the Chewbacca Mask Lady. Still, the cheerful mom is as touched as everyone else with the recent acts of violence in Dallas, Texas -- and she honored the victims with a beautiful Michael Jackson cover.
Payne, who has become a staple for cheerfulness and joy since her infectious laugh went viral in May, is as appalled as the rest of the world with the sad events of the past few days. The famous mom took to her Facebook, once again, to share a clip where she spoke of how sad she and the rest of the world were during this tough time, and then taking to the piano to play and sing Jackson's 1991 song "Heal the World."
"I've been spreading joy, and I've been hoping to do that, but I found myself over the last couple days being silent because I've been so sad and so hurt by what's going on," Payne says in the video.
"I'm very nervous to just share this with you because it's so vulnerable, but I felt like someone needs to sing these lyrics again and sing them over our world and just be a good reminder."
The video was posted last Saturday and, as of Monday noon, it had already been seen over 3.5 million times on Facebook, and it's a truly beautiful rendition of Jackson's tune.
Payne has become an Internet sensation since last May, when a video of her heartily laughing while wearing a Chewbacca mask went viral, and in the two months since, the clip has been seen over 159 million times.
While sales of the funny mask skyrocketed right after the video went viral and seller Kohl's gave Payne thousands of dollars worth of gift cards, the joyful mom has appeared on Good Morning America and The Late Late Show with James Corden, got to meet Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew and Mark Zuckerberg even invited her to Facebook Headquarters, after her clip became the most watched Facebook Live video ever.
In the months since, Payne has appeared on a few red carpets and posted more videos, but this is the first time since the original video that one of her Facebook Live clips has had this much online impact.
