The premise of "Fate and the Furious" revolves around Dominic Toretto turning his back on his "family." With the recent trailer released for the film, however, it seems that Dom went rouge, not on his own accord.
On the middle of the trailer, an exchange between Vin Diesel's Toretto and Charlize Theron's Cipher would be seen. As Cipher reminds Dom of why he chose to join her, the next frames show him responding that he does not have a choice. This would imply that there is something more into Dom's betrayal, adding to the "must-watch" factor of "Fate and the Furious."
Aside from the interesting bit of dialogue, the three-minute trailer also showed more of Cipher's capabilities. As A.V. Club reported, the high-tech terrorist took control of the cars in the city, using them to go after Toretto's former crew. As expected from the franchise, "Fate and the Furious" brings in a lot of car crashes and some falling cars to boot.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also gets to show off in the "Fate and the Furious" trailer. As reported by Rolling Stone, "The Rock," in his character Luke Hobbs, changed the trajectory of a torpedo heading their way while holding on a moving snowmobile's door with his bare hands. In the words of Michelle Rodriguez' character Letty, he got some style points with that stunt.
"Furious 7" baddie Jason Statham also gets some screen time, as his character Deckard Shaw gets added to the "family." "Fate and the Furious" certainly continue the tradition of bringing the bad guy into the team, with Hobbs, who started as the antagonist of the fifth installment, joining them on the sixth onwards.
"Fate and the Furious" will be the first movie in the franchise since the fourth film "Fast & Furious" that will not have Paul Walker. Walker passed away in 2013 after a car crash in the middle of filming "Furious 7."
