It seems that real life couples of "The Vampire Diaries" are meant to break up. Recently, Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin reportedly have called it quits. After nearly four years of being together, Paul and Phoebe decided to go on their separate ways.
The couple was last seen together in public on December 20 and has notably stopped featuring each other in their Instagram posts. Later on, DeVitto and Wesley announced their divorce in July 2013.
On the following summer, the two started dating after Paul's divorce. Tonkin played werewolf Hayley Marshall was only a recurring role in the "The Vampire Diaries" series and later casted as a mainstay cast on the show's spinoff, "The Originals" in 2013. "They are still good friends. The relationship just ran its course," a source close to the couple tells E! News and who was first to break the news. The insider also shared that the exes who had moved in together are currently living apart.
The news broke out on the same day that "The Vampire Diaries" is ending its eight-season run with a one-hour special at 8 p.m. EST and the series finale at 9 p.m. One of the couple's friendly moments was shared by Paul Wesley himself on an interview with ET. He stated that his first scene with Tonkin on "The Vampire Diaries" last year, describing the experience as "cool" and "nice."
Wesley recently taped the series finale of "The Vampire Diaries", which aired on Friday, March 10, at 9 p.m. The episode was followed up by one-hour retrospective looking back at the show, featuring most of the cast. "The Originals" will begin airing its 13-episode fourth season Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m.
