Reimagined "Archie" comics "Riverdale" may introduce supernatural characters in Season 2. Fans think that the series could be adapting a post-apocalyptic story from the "Afterlife with Archie" comic books.
"Riverdale" showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed he is aware of these theories and teased that the show might go supernatural. He confirmed that there will be some kind of fantasy or horror element in Season 2. He further revealed that "Afterlife" was actually one of the first pitches when the show was still in development.
"Afterlife or not there will definitely be a big genre element to Season 2. It won't suddenly just be a coming-of-age drama. There will definitely be a very strong, bold genre statement," he said, TV Guide reported.
Should it happen, fans of the comic books say that the show might introduce Sabrina the Teenage Witch into the fold. Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that by the end of "Riverdale" Season 1, a character from the Archie Mythology with a "darker origin and backstory" will be introduced.
For the uninitiated, in "Afterlife with Archie," Sabrina the teenage Witch resurrected Jughead's dog back from the dead but the dog turned out to be a zombie that eventually started a zombie outbreak in Riverdale. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Aguirre-Sacasa said that there is a chance for this scenario to be reenacted in the series, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Meanwhile, the series 8th episode titled, "The Outsiders" will have Fred (Luke Perry) suddenly losing his crew when his company is about to start a construction project. Archie will try to help the situation by enlisting the help of his friends but one of them will be assaulted which will lead them to a shady part of town.
The teaser trailer also revealed that Archie may find himself in the middle of a fight and the Cooper brothers getting violent with each other. "Riverdale" Episode 8 airs on March 30, on The CW.
