Aiden Turner will return as the titular character in "Poldark" Season 3 this summer in the United Kingdom. American viewers, though, will have to wait till fall. The upcoming season's cast will also welcome three new members.
After the breathless Season 2, the historical drama will return on BBC One this June. There have been many rumors that the summer premiere date happened so that "Poldark" Season 3 will not clash with ITV drama "Victoria". However, The Radio Times reported that this was not the case.
A BBC One representative revealed that the producers wanted to bring the upcoming season as early as possible to fans. Accordingly, the "Poldark" Season 3 release date has nothing to do with "Victoria", which will be airing its second season in the fall. Despite the spokesperson's remarks, fans will note that when "Poldark" and "Victoria" aired during the same time, the former only got six million viewers.
Previously, "Poldark" had averaged around eight million viewers per episode. It's a good move to have "Poldark" Season 3 air earlier so that fans will not be split between the two shows. However, viewers in the United States will face the same problem since they will only be able to see the BBC One show during the fall.
Fans will be glad to know, though, that the "Poldark" Season 3 cast will have new members. According to CarterMatt, Esme Coy, John Hopkins, and Will Merrick will be part of the upcoming season as Rowella Chynoweth, Sir Francis Basset, and Arthur Solway respectively.
Those who have read the "Poldark" books by Winston Graham will already be familiar with these characters. Coy appeared in an episode of the sitcom "Goodnight Sweetheart". Hopkins appeared in "Midsomer Murders" and "Dancing on the Edge". Merrick, meanwhile, appeared in "Skins" and "Brief Encounters". Fans will have to wait for "Poldark" Season 3 to know how these characters will influence the current narrative.
