Simon Cowell and his team at Syco helped Melanie “Mel B” Brown after she tried to commit suicide after claiming alleged abuse by her husband, Stephen Belafonte. This was in the midst of filming the "X Factor" finals back in December 2014. The former “American Idol” judge have been left worried over Belafonte’s seeming control over her finances. Following her release from the hospital, he was among those who tried to help Mel leave her husband.
According to a source, Mel B never told anyone that Stephen Belafonte was beating her up. But, she told people at Syco that she wanted to leave him. They introduced Mel to divorce lawyers to help her through it reports Mail Online. Unfortunately, Belafonte had already gone back to the US with one of her children. The former Spice Girl had to return to Los Angeles also because she was afraid he would stop her from seeing her children again.
In released court documents, Mel B outlines how Stephen Belafonte allegedly manipulated and threatened her into staying in the marriage. Included among them is her allegation that he got their German nanny pregnant and used Mel’s money for her abortion and hotel stay as the nanny recuperated from the procedure.
According to Mel B, Stephen Belafonte paid the nanny in excess of $300,000 of her money for nanny services. She also alleges that when her husband announced the nanny’s pregnancy, he wanted the three of them to live together. The star further claims that he demanded that she participate in threesomes with random women. If Mel would object in participating, Belafonte would threaten to release compromising and intimate videos of her reports People.
Still in another in incident of alleged abuse, Mel B, 41, claims that Stephen Belafonte, 41, punched her in the face with a closed fist as her punishment for flirting with Usher. This was at the taping of a “The X Factor” segment in July 2012.
Stephen Belafonte has been ordered to leave the family home and stay away from Mel B and her three children, Phoenix, 18, Angel, 10, and Madison, 5. The ex-couple secretly married in Las Vegas in June 2007 after five months of dating. They renewed their vows in November 2008.
