"13 Reasons Why" has left a permanent impression on Selena Gomez. On Sunday, the executive producer of the Netflix series, Selena Gomez, got a semicolon tattoo along with her co-stars Tommy Dorfman and Alisha Boe.
Gomez and her co-stars got matching tattoos in honor of the central character of the Netflix series, Hannah Baker (played by Katherine Langford), who commits suicide after being bullied at high school. The series tells the 13 reasons why she decided to kill herself.
"I would do anything to be able to have a good influence on this generation, but I definitely relate to everything that was going on," said Gomez during a recent Netflix press event. "I was there for the last episode, and I was a mess just seeing it all come to life, because I've experienced that," added Gomez.
The semicolon tattoo done by Gomez and her co-stars represents Project Semicolon, which is a suicide prevention and mental health awareness movement. A semicolon tattoo is a reminder of the struggle, victory and survival and of the understanding that there is a new beginning when something old ends.
The "13 Reasons Why" star Boe shared a photo of the trio showing off their matching semicolon tattoos on Instagram. In the caption to the photo, Boe thanked all the fans for the love and support and also remembered Amy Bluel who started this movement.
Dorfman also shared a photo of him with Boe and Gomez with the caption describing his own struggles with mental health. He expressed gratitude for the gift of life and the new chapter in his life. Dorfman revealed that he himself struggled with addiction and depression during his high school and early college days.
