"The Winds of Winter" is long overdue. According to reports, George RR Martin is too busy with the last season of "Game of Thrones" and is "TWOW" is his least priority, so the award-winning author Neil Gaiman is reportedly finishing the book for him.
"Game of Thrones" is down to its last season and George RR Martin is making sure that it will be a sure hit. Thus, the TV adaptation is taking the author's time leaving "The Winds of Winter" on the backseat, Korea Portal reported. However, another writer is reportedly taking over "TWOW" to finish it, Neil Gaiman.
Neil Gaiman's involvement in "The Winds of Winter" has been reported a year ago. "The Sandman" author was allegedly spotted in Santa Fe to help George RR Martin finish the next volume of his epic fantasy saga, The Guardian reported.
"TWOW" is long overdue. The last book "A Dance with Dragons" was released in 2011, which means that readers and fans have been waiting for the next book for over five years already. George RR Martin admitted that he is a slow writer and he can't work when he is not on his desk. With his plate full with other projects and some public conventions and conferences, no wonder "TWOW" is delayed.
While having Neil Gaiman take over "The Winds of Winter" is possible it is highly unlikely. The "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is George RR Martin's masterpiece. It would be unbelievable for someone with GRRM's caliber to just let anyone touch the world he created.
"Sigh. There are no jokes on the internet: funny-silly blog at [the Santa Fe New Mexican] becomes 'news'," Neil Gaiman said about the news that he will be finishing "The Winds of Winter." Thus, one should take the reports about Gaiman taking over "TWOW" with a grain of salt.
"The Winds of Winter" is still in the works. George RR Martin has not announced any release date yet. Stay tuned for more "TWOW" news and updates.
