NBC announced last week that “American Idol” alum Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson will be joining “The Voice” as coaches. Fans of the remaining reality singing competition were disappointed when the network quickly clarified that they will not be appearing in the same season. Now, the real reason why the show won’t be having both of them at the same time is revealed.
According to a source, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, two of the most successful artists “American Idol” has ever produced in its entire run, really cannot stand each other. Kelly, the show’s first winner will have to wait until “The Voice” Season 14 to make her debut. Meanwhile, Jennifer will be joining Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and come-backing coach Miley Cyrus next season. The source added that Kelly was in fact blindsided by Jennifer being in the show since no one had told her about it.
In a related news, NBC reality TV chief Paul Telegdy wants to make it clear that Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson’s being in “The Voice” is not a reaction to “American Idol” return. He said that they have been talking to the two superstars about joining their show for a long time reports Deadline. Telegdy added that he was confident that both artists would confirm this.
Telegdy said that people at NBC were just so excited for Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson to join “The Voice” that they didn’t immediately connect them and the news that ABC was bringing back “American Idol.” It can be noted that both Kelly and Jennifer already have connections to NBC. Jennifer had previously coached the UK version of the show while Kelly had appeared in the US version in past seasons.
It was just last week that ABC announced it had closed a deal with Fremantle Media for the “American Idol” revival reports Mail Online. The show will return for the 2017-2018 season or two seasons since the original series ended its 15-season run on Fox in April 2016. The host of the reboot as well as its judges have yet to be announced.
