The CW has released the synopsis for "Supergirl" Season 3, which hints at the return of Mon-El and The Guardian. However, Maggie Sawyer may not return.

The network has yet to announce a release date for "Supergirl" Season 3, although the show retains its usual timeslot. The installment will continue to air Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. starting this Fall. Ahead of its return, The CW has released the synopsis.

"Also in Kara's life are media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), a photo journalist who moonlights as Guardian, a masked vigilante, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), and Mon-El of Daxam (Chris Wood), whose planet was ravaged by Krypton's destruction," read the synopsis for "Supergirl" Season 3 shared by Kryptonsite. This confirms that Mon-El returns in the installment, despite his uncertain fate in the Season 2 Finale.

To recap, the Season 2 Finale saw Mon-El inside the pod that brought him to Kara's earth from Daxam. Supergirl placed him there to keep him safe from lead poisoning. In the finale titled "Nevertheless, She Persisted," Kara shipped her boyfriend to outer space and the pod got pulled into a wormhole in the Phantom Zone. What happens to Mon-El afterward remains unknown, but given the synopsis for "Supergirl" Season 3, it is likely he survives and returns to Kara.

According to Comicbook, it is likely that "Supergirl" Season 3 follows Mon-El's story from the DC comics. In the comics, he remained in stasis inside the pod for lead poisoning. It was only until the Legion of Superheroes found a cure in the 30th Century that he was released.

Meanwhile, there have been speculations that The Guardian in not in the installment, because of his lack of presence in the Season 2 Finale. Regardless, the synopsis for "Supergirl" Season 3 clearly confirmed his return.

However, the synopsis for "Supergirl" Season 3 omitted Maggie Sawyer's name, which hints at her departure. The character was instrumental in developing Alex's story, specifically with her sexual orientation. The synopsis hints trouble for the couple in Season 3.
