Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" is expected to break records and it did. The movie is the first superhero film from the DC universe to receive positive reviews from fans.

According to Forbes, Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman" starring Gal Gadot in the titular role is the biggest opening weekend from a female director in cinema history. It breaks records by earning $100 million domestic and about the same cume in foreign markets. It has already taken an estimated $86 million in worldwide box office. The figure is expected to rise this weekend as the ticket sales continue to grow.

Female superhero films were usually a flop. For instance, Helen Slater's "Supergirl" only bombed $14 million. Halle Berry's "Catwoman" with $40 million and Jennifer Garner's "Elektra" with only $24 million, USA Today. However, Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" is different.

So, what makes Gal Gadot's female superhero film a huge hit? Well, many are anticipating "Wonder Woman" in the big screen.

Wonder Woman is an A-list superhero that many viewers are waiting to see again. "People are really excited because they have been waiting for this one, probably more than any other in the DC canon. Everybody has awareness of this character."

Wonder Woman is well-loved. For "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins, the character is special because she is strong and she believes in a better mankind. She is capable, but she tries to avoid war.

Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" topped the Fandango poll of 10,000 moviegoers as their most anticipated summer movie. Now that it was released, the figure supported the poll.

Aside from fans loving the character of Wonder Woman, many believe that Gal Gadot is just perfect for the role. Per Wire, Gal Gadot served two years in the Israeli army as combat trainer. She also loves wielding Bracelets of Submissions.

Just like Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman, only a very few Americans knew Gal Gadot until this film. She already appeared in numerous "Fast and Furious" movies and in "Keeping Up with the Joneses." Her role in "Wonder Woman" only confirmed that superhero movies don't need superstars.
