"How I Met Your Mother" fans got a special and VERY long-awaited treat in the Season 8 finale when the show finally revealed the face of the titular Mother, portrayed by Cristin Milioti. And little by little, the producers have leaked pieces of information regarding the upcoming ninth and final season.
Shortly after the finale, the news broke that Season 9 would take place entirely during Barney and Robin's wedding weekend, which is when Ted meets the Mother. But executive producer and show co-creator Carter Bays "The Spoiler Room" on EW.com that, while the final season occurs during two days, more time would be shown than that.
"There's a time jump of some sort in every episode of this show, so you can rest assured the premiere will be no different," Bays said. "That being said, this next season in particular will feature some of the most non-linear episodes we've ever done."
"The Spoiler Room" also noted that there would be a "tiny time jump" in the premiere and that Season 9 would feature some flashback episodes, as well.
Milioti, the actress playing the Mother, is a relative unknown to most television audiences. She received a Tony nomination for her lead role in the Broadway musical "Once" but she also had some television roles as Johnny Sack's daughter on "The Sopranos" and as a comedy writer with a baby voice on an episode of "30 Rock."
Season 8 could have been the last for "How I Met Your Mother" but an 11th-hour renewal gave fans one more year of the show.
