WWE's SummerSlam 2013 pay-per-view is just around the corner and the rumors and news surrounding the big show are starting to heat up. The SummerSlam match card is starting to take shape with three matches confirmed including John Cena versus Daniel Bryan, CM Punk versus Brock Lesnar, and Christian versus Alberto Del Rio. There also are a number of rumored matches heading into the August 18th show at Los Angeles' Staples Center. With just two more Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown episode's until SummerSlam, things should start to heat up this Monday night.
As seen on Friday night's Smackdown episode, Christian will be facing Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. Is it just me or does this match leave something to be desired? This could be an opportunity for Damien Sandow or maybe Cody Rhodes to cash in their Money in the Bank briefcase in a big turn. My guess is neither Christian nor Alberto Del Rio will walk away champion. I think WWE is gearing up for a big push for either Sandow or Rhodes.
A much rumored about match at SummerSlam is The Shield facing Mark Henry and Big Show in a handicap tag match. F4Wonline.com is reporting that Big Show will be checked this weekend to see if he is medically cleared to wrestle Monday night. If he is cleared I'm guessing we will see that feud begin Monday night. If Big Show isn't cleared, WWE may have to go in another direction for SummerSlam.
Also according to F4Wonline.com, Big E Langston has been impressing WWE officials on their current overseas tour. There likely will be some type of match at SummerSlam involving Dolph Ziggler and Langston.
In TNA wrestling news, Tito Ortiz was revealed on Thursday night's Impact show to be the #August1Warning mystery guy. Ortiz was also revealed this past week to be facing Rampage Jackson in Bellator's November 2nd MMA fight. Obviously TNA is trying to capitalize on some cross promotion with Bellator.
Also, Thursday night after the Impact tapings, Kurt Angle was arrested and charged with DWI. TMZ reports that Angle was released on a $2,000 bond. Angle then announced on Twitter that he is entering rehab.
"I am blessed to have the support of my family, my friends and my company. In light of recent events I will immediately be entering a rehabilitation center. I realize that this is a pivotal time in my life and I ask for your understanding as well as your prayers and continued support. I am confident that in taking these steps I can begin to address necessary changes in my life."
Obviously this is a big blow to TNA, who is already reportedly struggling financially. TNA president Dixie Carter; however, tweeted support for Angle. "The TNA Family is very supportive of the steps @RealKurtAngle is taking in his recovery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers."
