Heading into Game 2, ESPN sports columnists predict the season outlook MLB power rankings. The Tigers head into the end of the 2013 regular season at the no 4 spot - according to Walkoff Woodward writer Ryan Callery:
"The Tigers' leader in batting average and on-base percentage since the All-Star break is not the name you'd expect. Victor Martinez has been designated as Detroit's most reliable hitter, sporting a .387 batting average and .438 OBP since the break. His closest AL peer in average, Mike Trout, is hitting 33 points below Martinez."
The Sox snag the no 3 overall spot (out of 30 teams). According to ESPN.com:
"Jon Lester has allowed only three home runs in eight starts (52.2 innings) since the All-Star break."
The Tigers head into Game 2 with 81 wins and 57 losses. The Red Sox hold a 82-57 winning record. On Labor Day (Sept. 2), Detroit defeated Boston in Game 1 with a score of 3-0.
