While one Superman prepares for the role of a lifetime in Warner Bros.' 2015 "Batman vs. Superman" film, another Superman is going through a divorce. Longtime TV Superman, Tom Welling's wife has filed for divorce according to a report from TMZ. The gossip site reports that Jamie White Welling filed divorce documents on Oct. 16 citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce. Welling is best known for his role as Clark Kent in the TV show "Smallville."
TMZ reports that Jamie is looking for spousal support. The couple reportedly separated back in 2012 after 10 years of marriage. The couple had been living in Vancouver for most of their marriage, where "Smallville" was being filmed.
Welling played a young Clark Kent in "Smallville" for 10 seasons. While the movie "Superman" has gone through a few changes, Welling solidified the TV version of the superhero. It's actually surprising Welling never got more consideration to play the role of Superman in the movies. His performance usually got solid reviews. Instead Brandon Routh was chosen to take over for Christopher Reeve and most recently Henry Cavill was picked for the role of Clark Kent in "Man of Steel" and will be playing Superman once again in 2015's "Batman vs. Superman."
Besides his role in "Smallville," Welling's movie and TV resume is rather spread out. Welling was in "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" and "The Fog" in 2005 and had a role in "Parkland" this year. He also has a role in "Draft Day" next year. Welling's performance in "Parkland" has received some good reviews. The movie centers around the events that occurred at Dallas' Parkland Hospital on the day then U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Welling plays Agent Roy Kellerman in the film, a much different role than playing Clark Kent.
Rotten Tomatoes gave Welling's performance a 47% approval rating, which is the highest of any of his films.
