Despite passing away nearly 30 years ago, comedian Andy Kaufman continues to catch the attention of fans. Recently at the 9th Annual Andy Kaufman Awards at Gotham's Comedy Club a woman claiming to be Kaufman's daughter went on stage and revealed that Andy is still alive. Obviously everyone in the audience was shocked and it led to widespread speculation that the comedian faked his own death. Is Kaufman alive? Is he still messing with people from the grave? Well, TMZ talked with Kaufman's last girlfriend and she said that the comedian is dead.
The fact that nearly 30 years later people are still speculating as to whether or not Kaufman faked his own death is the very reason why Kaufman was considered a brilliant comedian and entertainer. Whether you believe Kaufman is dead or alive, he still has people talking. After Kaufman's alleged daughter appeared on stage at the Gotham Comedy Club, The Smoking Gun reported that the woman was actually actress Alexandra Tatarsky, whose 58-year-old father is a psychologist. Andy's brother Michael, who was on stage when the woman made the announcement, denies he was a part of the hoax. Either way, it seems someone or some people were continuing on with Kaufman's comedic antics.
TMZ caught up with Kaufman's last girlfriend before he passed away and she tried her best to put to rest the death hoax rumors. Lynne Marguiles told TMZ that she saw Kaufman die. "I was in the hospital room," she told the gossip site. "I was there. They would have had to switch bodies." Kaufman died back in 1984 from a rare form of lung cancer.
As for the alleged daughter who made her way on stage at the Gotham Comedy Club, Marguiles said that is not Kaufman's daughter. Marguiles said she knows Kaufman's only daughter who is in her 40's and that woman is not Kaufman's daughter. So do you still think Andy Kaufman is alive?
