If you've been following the news around Terminator 5, a.k.a. Terminator Genisys, you probably know that former Doctor Who star Matt Smith hasn't shown up in any trailers, despite having a pretty big part in the upcoming 2015 movie. His role has been a mystery for quite some time, but thanks to a test screening that happened in theaters recently, the secret of his character in the movie has been revealed! This is why we can't have nice things, you guys! [SPOILERS to follow!]
According to The Mary Sue (via Gamma Squad), this leaked information comes from the infamous Latino Review, which has been responsible for a number of rumors and spoilers surrounding the most anticipated movies. Depending on how you're looking at this news, the website is pretty trustworthy, having shared updates that later become confirmed.
With that in mind, you might want to stop reading because this is where the spoilers start!
"Matt Smith plays the embodiment of Skynet," the leaked information from Latino Review states. "Similar to Helena Bonham Carter's role in McG's Terminator: Salvation, Smith will be the antagonist system given form, different from the nebulous corporate villainy of Terminator 2: Judgement Day and vague apocalypse technophobia of the first."
Should we believe this leaked character description? It makes sense that such a role would be kept a secret, considering villains in movies should be the biggest "surprise" in theory. Do you think Smith would be a good antagonist? Let us know what you think of this rumor in the comments section below!
Jai Courtney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emila Clarke, Jason Clarke, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance and Byung-Hun Lee also star in this highly anticipated film. Directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor, we'll find out if this spoiler is true when Terminator Genisys hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
