Photos recently surfaced online of pop megastar Justin Bieber allegedly smoking weed with a group of friends at an L.A. hotel party - and such shady images have sparked an outrageous social media/networking outcry. In response to the alleged "Justin Bieber smoking marijuana" photos, hoaxers posing as fans started an online campaign entitled "Cutting for Bieber" and started posting several (supposedly) fabricated gruesome self-harm images. Unfortunately the morbid prank began trending on Twitter as #CutForBieber and #CuttingForBieber, with many loyal fans taking the social media hoax seriously and posting their own images of slashed wrists, blades, and blood. While the Biebs has yet to respond to the shocking and disturbing hashtag trend, fellow pop star Miley Cyrus took to Twitter, exclaiming that self-harm is a serious issue and not something to be joked about or taken lightly.

Following his most-recent breakup from 20-year-old starlet Selena Gomez, Bieber spent the New Year's in L.A. with friends. The "Boyfriend" crooner attended a Newport Beach hotel party with a mystery girl on January 2, where buddy Lil Twist was dishing out A LOT of pot. And TMZ has the pictures to prove it.

Several fans were disappointed with Bieber's alleged drug use, but the #CuttingForBieber pleads take things to a very disturbing extreme. What started out as a prank has now spread like wildfire on the popular social networking site Twitter - several reports confirm that while many of the morbid self-harm pics are fake, some are most definitely real.

(WARNING: The below image depicts a #CuttingForBeiber self-harm post which some readers may find disturbing and offensive).

@Kellydu851: "IT HURTS BUT I DO IT FOR MY JUSTIN :(((#CuttingForBieber."

Many other Twitter users responded to the #CutForBieber trend by posting "cutting for Bieber" pictures of themselves using scissors to cut paper.

Several fans are shocked and dismayed by the morbid online campaign, including Miley Cyrus:

@KAIS3RR: "#cuttingforbieber is one of the most disgusting and disrespectful things i've seen. Self-harm is not a joke, it's something very serious."

@madiidanae: "#cuttingforbieber ? Are you serious? People are ACTUALLY cutting themselves because he smokes weed? There goes my last of respect for people."

@_Angie_Murray: "Just saw the news about the #cuttingforbieber and I just want to weigh in, this is an absolutely ridiculous trend that needs to stop!"

@kaliellingson: "If "#cuttingforbieber" is supposed to be some sort of self-harm joke, I genuinely don't want to be a part of this society anymore #sickening."

And Cyrus re-tweeted the message, @MileyCyrus: "#cut4bieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful."

As numerous outraged individuals point out, fake photos diminish the real mental health and self-esteem issues related to cutting and other methods of self-harm. Such matters should never be taken so lightly, and hopefully the troubling hashtag stops trending soon.

It is unknown whether or not Bieber is aware of the morbid #CuttingForBieber trend which has shocked the Twitter world... many tweeters consider the hashtag the most disturbing trend to ever hit the social networking site.
