A popular host, Gregory G. Rodriguez of "A Rifleman's Journal" was shot and killed by a man jealous about his relationship with his shooter's wife Friday.
After killing the host, Wayne Bengston then beat his wife, and took his 2-year-old son to a family member's home before driving off and later killing himself. Police Chief Bill Dial said, "It's pretty much an open-and-closed case. Homicide and suicide," Dial said.
Police say Rodriguez was in town for business and visited the killer's wife at her mother's home in Whitefish when her husband appeared around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night. The two previously met at a trade show and began a nonromantic relationship according to Dial.
While sitting in the kitchen conversing over glasses of wine, Bengston showed up and proceeded to beat his wife in the face and head with a pistol according to Dial, "I think it was a jealous husband, but this is all conjecture," Dial said.
SWAT found Bengston's body with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head according to police.
