Remember the time when Joss Whedon allegedly claimed that the resurrection of Phil Coulson may have taken "some punch out of" the Avengers? It appears that the comments made by the executive producer of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have been taken out of context and he's actually happy to bring Clark Gregg's character back to life.

During a recent interview with the Oxford Union, Whedon spoke up about the issue and confirmed what Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans have known all along.

"No, I don't regret bringing back Phil Coulson because he's Clark Gregg, and he's so badass," he said.

In addition to that, Whedon pointed out that although the return of Agent Coulson would confuse an Avengers fan, it was very much accepted by the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. viewers.

"I do think that there is an element for somebody who consumes all the Marvel product that it might take the punch out [of it], but generally I feel like the S.H.I.E.L.D. audience and the Avengers audience are not actually in the same group, necessarily," he said.

But is it possible that the difference between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel TV is the main reason why Whedon decided to stop working on more MCU films? The Avengers: Age of Ultron director explained that it was more about focusing on certain projects.

"I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase, but then I just had to concentrate only on Ultron, and sort of know when it was done I was just going to stop. So I made a completely clean break - not because we had a falling out - just because I was like, 'I can't,'" he said.

In addition to Avengers and Age of Ultron, Whedon also directed the post-credits scenes in Thor and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
